I set off on a little stroll down the river, with the intent to visit my future residence, Me Mate's Place, to find out exactly where it was and tell them to expect me a day later than my original reservation
From there, I continued on past all the restaurants and shops that line the riverside and perused many of the menus on the way. This area is heavily populated by tuk tuk and moto drivers, tourists in the restaurants, and some street vendors. Convenience stores and other businesses dot the lineup. I stopped in one and picked up some snacks and a top-up for my local phone.
I also stopped at a restaurant whose fresh spring rolls being assembled in their outside cart caught my eye. I don't speak Khmer, and the shopkeeper only knew a little English, but when she asked, "Will you need chili sauce?", we were suddenly speaking the same language.
I decided to wander a bit and take the long road home. I wanted to take a bunch of pictures, but I had my food in my hands so I couldn't keep pulling my camera out. Since I will be in this area for a while, I figured there'll be more opportunities to snap those later. Some of the best finds included an outdoor market with loads of vendors selling colorful fresh fruit (Phsar Chas). I was very tempted to buy a whole lychee, but I'm going to need someone to teach me how to consume it! I also happened upon Wat Phnom. I didn't explore it today, but I will obviously be back.
Also, Hooters of Cambodia. Who knew?!?
I got back and sat down for a late lunch/early dinner, which brings us full circle. Yum!
More adventures to come. Until then, feel free to check this out.
That adventure of yours is heating up, Funnifer. Fun. How "swimmable" is that river? How drinkable?
ReplyDeleteI think pretty limited in both cases! I'll have to stick to the rooftop pool : )
